True Multi-Lingual Environment (infinite languages)


The platform was designed to be a multi-lingual system, supporting an infinite number of languages, without the need for any additional programming when new languages are added. The Multi-Lingual features are included in the user interface as well as the actual data. The use of Unicode characters makes the platform compatible with all the languages available worldwide. In the administration environment the translators can even define their own multi-lingual fields for their translation needs.


Multi-media
Citron2DAM provides mechanisms for the scientific documentation of collections and their artifacts as well as the documentation for every accompanying digital asset that is connected with each artifact. The connected digital assets (media) could be images, graphics, slides, video, sound, text, PDF and office documents as well as HTML documents and hyperlinks to external websites. The system includes even a WYSIWYG editor in order to create and edit rich content using the internet language, HTML.
International Standards Documentation Support
The powerful meta-data management engine supports the most wide-accepted international standards such as:

• Marc21 / Unimarc
• CIDOC
 

Dictionary Control – Term Thesauri
The system includes a Thesaurus and Controlled DictionaryTerm engine. The Thesauri are based on the ISO-5964 standard for multi-lingual thesauri. Also, mechanisms exist for exporting the Thesauri in the W3C SKOS (RDF Implementation) standard format. The use of these standards allows for the exchange of cultural thesauri between cultural organizations. The thesauri are managed internally by the system and they support relations for synonyms, homonyms, opposites, paro-nyms and translated terms as well as conceptual relations for terms existing in the same or different thesauri.


Web Extensions
The fact that Citron2DAM is a 100% web-based solution, makes it accessible to all users inside or outside a Local Area Network. Minimal network component “tweaking” (firewall configuration, IP restrictions, etc.) assures the integrity and security of the data, as well as, easy access to the application.


Searching

The platform includes powerful data search and retrieval mechanisms, such as:

  • Quick Search. The search terms are either typed by the user or they are selected from a data list or thesaurus (in case of selectable values)
  • Advance Search. A “search-building” mechanism is also included to create dynamic queries through a selection of multiple criteria using logical operators.
  • Pre-defined Queries. The system allows the storing of searches as well as their selected publishing to different user groups (shared queries).
  • Search-Within-Results Queries. The system also allows the user to search within the results of a previous (more general) query.
  • Search Results. The platform provides the user with the ability to format the resulting data sets according to his/her needs. Some additional options the user might configure are the number and types of fields, the number of results per page, the version of the media which is displayed for faster previewing (e.g. thumbnails).
  • Result Sorting. The results are sorted by ascending or descending order, per displaying field. Multiple sorting is also available for results grouping.
  • Thesaurus Term Searching. The search is accomplished either automatically or by selecting dictionary terms (e.g. synonyms, homonyms, opposites, related terms from other Thesauri, etc.)
     

Printing and Exporting Results
All search results can be formatted for printing to a local or network printer. All results can also be exported in XML, Word and Excel and “Clean” HTML documents.
 

Adaptability
The platform supports the following adaptability principles:

  • All data field descriptors, data card descriptors and accompanying text descriptors in the user interface environment, can be modified by the administrators without any additional programming. For this purpose, the system includes special tools for Translated Term Management and Meta-Data Field Management through Citron2DAM’s powerful meta-data engine.
  • All object descriptors as well as their properties and type definitions can be fully customized
  • The data entry adheres to the rules of proper customization and it is totally user controlled depending on their security access levels.

The system also integrates a web-extension module in order to present all (or part) of the artifacts and their meta-data and media to the web, natively through Altanet’s portal creation and CMS platform, Citron2CMS, or any other third-party portal engine. The module enables the creation of data mining “templates” from which, the administrators can define the size and type of the meta-data fields, the collection and artifact “data sets” as well as the digital asset media versions which will appear in the resulting browsing lists. Alternatively they can work as criteria for advance relational web queries.
